With the season getting busy, you can sometimes feel stressed and overwhelmed. Today we are going share some quick ways to de-stress.
Breath the Stress Away
One great way to reduce stress levels is to practice breathing exercises. One of these exercises is called the square breathing method, it goes a little like this:
- Inhale your breath as you count to 4.
- Hold your breath for 4 counts.
- Exhale your breath slowly as you count to 4.
- Hold your breath for 4 counts.
- Repeat for a few minutes until you feel calm.
While doing the exercise, remember to focus on your breath, and push your other thoughts aside.
Practice Giving Thanks
While thinking positive thoughts can be a bit cliche and cheesy, there is psychological research to back up that forcing yourself to smile or laugh can greatly improve your mood. If you are ever feeling stressed or down, try to focus on the good things that have happened to you. They can be as small as being grateful that someone held the door open for you. At the end of the day, write down three things that you are grateful for.
Be Creative, Be Free
One of the great ways to take your mind off of the stress is to find a creative outlet. This can be anything from cooking, baking, coloring with colored pencils or doodling, or taking pictures. These activities can all provide you with a break from a stressful situation.
Meditate your Mind
While this may not be for everyone, meditation has been proven effective in helping people calm down and de-stress. It helps in quieting your mind. To meditate, sit yourself in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and begin to breath steadily. Like before, focus on your breath until it becomes a steady pattern. Then, let your thoughts flow through you but maintain your focus on your breath. If you want to explore meditation further, there are plenty of guided meditation practices online as well.
