Hydrate Yourself -- Four Simple Ways
by Alan Joel

OK, so we all know we should drink 1 ounce of water for every pound of body weight per day. That means a 120 pound person needs to drink just over 7 cups of water per day. But, honestly, slugging down that much water, especially when you're not used to staying hydrated, can be hard. Never fear! Here are four simple ways to make hydrating easier:

  1. Drink warm or room temperature water. Cold water can be hard to swallow, and the body often accepts warm water more easily.
  2. Add sea salt. Add a teaspoon of sea salt to make the water more flavorful. Plus, it helps your body more easily use and absorb the water.
  3. Carry a water bottle. If you carry a water bottle with you, you'll be more likely to remember to drink water during the day. Spreading 8 cups of water out throughout the day makes it easier to swallow.
  4. Morning maxout. Drink up to 5 cups first thing in the morning. It helps your body flush out waste and toxins from the day before, and you get more than your water requirements for the day in one fell swoop.

Using these four helpful methods can make drinking your full days' requirement of water much easier. Just in case you aren't sure whether you really need that much water, check out these interesting facts and figures about dehydration:

  • 1% deficiency causes thirst
  • 4% deficiency causes muscles to lose their strength and endurance
  • 5% deficiency can cause a slight fever
  • 8% deficiency causes glands to stop producing needed saliva
  • 10% deficiency means a person cannot walk
Convinced? Hopefully, these facts and tips will help your mind and body become willing to stay hydrated!!
